Tier II Generators Should Not Be Permitted During Planned Outages

I opposed the proposed change that would allow emergency generators to be used during planned outages because it endangers public health unnecessarily. If, however, the change is allowed, there should be guardrails in place to mitigate the damage and increase transparency. For example,:

  • Tier II generators should not be permitted to run during planned outages near schools, hospitals, parks, trails, residential areas, business parks, or farms.
  • Daily air quality monitoring and public reporting of the data should be required while the generators are running.
  • Notice should be provided in advance to the public about which generators will run and for how long.
