Diesel Generators

What other alternatives have been discussed?  What about requiring solar photovoltaics and  the battery  for storage? Why should these data centers be allowed to take the easy way out and use diesel generators?    I wonder where the people funding these data centers live?    Its obvious data center builders do not care about the people living close by and how these monster buildings create  air and noise pollution and not they are not required to mitigate the effects.
