Backup power options for data centers

Diesel generators are one of the dirtiest forms of generating energy that we have. When used in a substantial manner, they pose a serious public health risk. Regarding current and future data centers, they should continue to be used only cases of “sudden and reasonably unforeseeable events” or maintenance.

Diesel generators were only ever meant to serve as backup power in emergency situations. That should continue to be the case. There are several alternative sources of power for planned, foreseeable outages.
