Urging reinstatement of anti-discrimination policies in adoption regulation

I am a Virginia voter, a family law attorney, a mother of four and a grandmother. I believe all children have the right to be reared by loving parents and that a parent's abiity to rear a child and to provide the child with a good home should be the only criterion in deciding that parent's suitability for adopting a child.  I think it is a disgrace that the Virginia would allow adoption agencies to  impose barriers based on criteria that have nothing to do with good parenting, such as gender, age, religion, political beliefs, sexual orientation, disability or family status on those seeking to adopt.  It is particularly disgraceful when there are more than 1,000 children now awaiting adoption in Virginia.  I urge the Board of Social Services to reinstate anti-discrimination policies in the licensing of adoption agencies in Virginia.
