anti-discrimination is in the best interests of the child

The single most important issue at stake is, what is in the interests of the child? As an adopted person myself, I am acutely aware of how important placement decisions are in a person's life.

Suitable parents must be generous, wise, capable of loving people who are not their own biological children, and dedicated to repeatedly offering opportunities to children who are under emotional stress. Stress that might, without special support, overshadow their development.

If a person or couple can provide those things, that is what is in the interests of the child. In my experience, many same-sex couples are loving families that recognize (a) not everyone has the same needs, (b) families can be built on love, not biology alone, and (c) we all need some creativity to become our best selves -- we cant listen to what others say about us as our only source of self-knowledge. These are wonderful gifts for children to receive who need extra help re-making their lives. There is no substitute for this kind of generous support for a child's self esteem. Please, decide to put the best interests of children first, and place them in the most supportive environments where "difference" is a good thing - including loving, supportive same-sex households.
