Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Strongly Opposed

We cannot sacrifice the livelihood of innocent children and school staff for the sake of potential happiness of a select few transgender children. This is just another big government solution that implements rules and punishment to force people to do what they want. We should be talking about teaching inclusion and informing parents on the terrible ramifications of encouraging kids to lean into transgender territory. The ideas being put forward are evil and can truly disrupt the lives of many of our innocent children for the sake of a very small few. We are a charitable people and can show compassion for transgender children on our own accord. We don’t need big government and power hungry teacher unions to dictate how that charity is implemented and makes it to transgender children. The policies being put forward are nothing but identity politics that will be used to further divide our state and disrupt the family, the core unit of America.
