Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Consider the consequences

Science shows a human brain is not fully developed until the age of 25. For that very reason we have laws in place regarding driving, drinking,  smoking, voting,  serving our country, legal guardianship.   It is also for that very reason you shouldn't be taking away parents' rights about THEIR OWN children,  making the assumption that all  kids in this situation are being abused.  Additionally, there are ways to offer children going through this,  needed support through counseling or single use restrooms,  without needlessly and carelessly endangering or stripping away the rights of others to feel safe. Not thinking this through carefully and considering ALL sides of this will be detrimental to the health and well being of generations of children who are already suffering needlessly. I plead with you not to hastily change legislation, that only benefits one group, but fails to consider or empathize with another.  This decision has potential to bring about grave consequences for ALL. Opposed very much to this specific legislation without extensive review and consideration of everyone who will be affected.
