We are strongly opposed to the new model guidelines regarding transgender students.
The proposed guidelines and recent legislative changes claim support from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) as reason to adopt these changes. However the APA has historically, accurately, referred to transgender topics and gender confusion. They have only changed their definition to support how someone feels. Rather, they should have remained objective to mental illness and confusion rather than subjective feels, which are even more confusing during the adolescent ages.
Requiring staff to allow bathroom and locker access based on subjective identity endangers the well-being of students. Further, these guidelines prevent staff from even inquiring about entering private facilities. This further is dangerous particularly for female students who will have their privacy violated.
Please stop this process and readdress.
