These proposed policies regarding transgender students violates the rights of everyone involved. The rights of teachers, students, and parents in their beliefs and stances on transgender issues as well as their basic rights to use changing areas and restrooms without fear of an opposite sex person being present. These policies will result in so many more conflicts than actually resolve bullying and related issues with transgender students.
These policies will cause teachers to be sued, loose their jobs, and generally live in fear of breaking a policy based on the whims of a child. We are already hurting to keep teachers, why would we add to their increasingly difficult job?!
I especially take issue with any policy that gives the school administration and teachers the right to not inform a parent of their child in any capacity; emotional, physical or mental. In every other situation the parent or guardian HAS to be involved; to say that a parent can be left out of their child's struggle of identity has MAJOR repercussions. This would only further hurt a child; who may I remind you, despite the current social trends, does not have the mental or emotional capacity to truly make such a life altering decision.
Although my children are not yet school age, these types of policies would force our family to find other options for their future schooling. My tax dollars may be forced to still support these policies, but the state and local school system would have no other support from my pockets or time.
