Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Strongly oppose.

There is no acceptable reason to have other adults in my child's life keeping secrets with my children. That is a line that teachers shouldn't cross. We encourage our children to be honest and come forward if any adult takes advantage of them. You are now trying to encourage children to keep secrets with these other adults. These philosophies also go against our lifestyle views. I will love my child if they start to have these issues or don't. But I do not want to support or encourage it. Gender confusion is a new hot topic issue that is attracting attention and trying to gain popularity when a very small few actually identify this way. I do think the kids that identify this way should be protected and shouldn't have to suffer from bullying or presucution. That doesn't mean that we need to saturate or kids in these choices or encourage them to follow this way of life.
