School is a place for students to learn. It is also a place many students use as an escape because it is supposed to be a judgment-free zone. Trans students should feel safe in the buildings, and there is no good reason to deny them an environment that is harassment-free.
I have gone through a lot of comments that do not support this, and the main argument I see is that it goes against religious values that are mostly Christain ideals. So let me say this, the topic of religion is already kept out of schools to avoid conflict. By saying this bill shouldn't be passed because it goes against your beliefs is harmful to those who are not part of your religion. In no situation should your religion be pressed onto others. Religion is supposed to help people feel safe and secure, but using it as a method to deny other kids safety is completely wrong. People also seem against using the preferred pronouns of students. Everybody has preferred pronouns, even straight people. Pronouns are like your name, they are a method of identification. That is why if you have a nickname you ask people to call you by it. It's the same with pronouns. If you respect student's nicknames in school, you should respect their pronouns too. Sex is biological, gender isn't, so stop with that argument.
As a student in Virginia, I see no reason not to pass this bill. The majority of people who oppose it are, quite frankly, old and are not even affected by this because they aren't even in the buildings. If you are so distraught by kids finding their identity I think you should ask yourself why it bothers you so much. Living a life of judgment and worrying is much more harmful to yourself. Schools are a place for learning, not hating on others, and if other student's self-identity troubles you, maybe online school is the place for you.
