Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

If you are a parent or teacher please read and SUPPORT this policy

I fully support this policy. We must protect our trans youth in a time where they are most vulnerable while  providing them with our support and safety. Please rethink if it were to be your child and the support, guidance, and love that they would need from you.  If you do not support or agree maybe homeschooling or private school may be a better option for your child. Religion is kept out of PUBLIC schools and should never be an excuse, you’re only spreading hate. If you are a parent and do not support this I am scared for your child’s future and the wrong, hateful ideas you put into their heads. If you are a teacher and do not support this policy you should reconsider your career because the only job you have is to educate and support children, never discriminate. The importance of safety for all kids should never be a debate.
