Virginia State Board of Social Services - Adoption Discrimination Should Never Happen

The Virginia State Board of Social Services mandate regulations prohibiting adoption agencies from discriminating against prospective adoptive parents based on gender, age, religion, political beliefs, sexual orientation, disability, or family status.

Virginia, under Bob McDonnel and Ken Cuccinelli, has become even more bigotted than anyone ever thought possible.  With backing from the current republicans in the state legislature, its amazing that the state of Virginia hasn't reinstituted slavery!  As a longtime voting resident of Virginia, I am truly appalled at the nearly constant flow of hate and prejudice coming from the leadership of this state!

When it comes to placing children in loving, caring, forever homes, the wellfare of these children (not politics) must always come first.

Please consider the following:

  • All children deserve a loving, forever family. Currently, there are more than 1,000 children waiting to be adopted in Virginia.
  • Decisions about prospective parents should be based on the best interest of the child, not on discriminatory factors unrelated to good parenting.
  • When agencies act in the stead of the state, they should be bound by principals of non-discrimination even if they are private agencies.

Here's hoping that the Virginia State Board of Social Services will stand up to the fear, hate, biggotry, and prejudice of the current state leadership and ensure that children needing forever homes can be assured of finding them without fear of institutionalized discrimination.
