Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Seek to love your neighbor - oppose this policy

Affirming something that is hurtful to my neighbor is not loving. This ideology goes directly against all we have known to be true of child psychology for the last century. There are hundreds of decisions we believe children are incapable of making with any level of informed maturity. we have deep understanding of how children’s minds process new information, discovery, and comprehension. Why on earth would we ever conclude a child to be an expert on the truth of what they are experiencing as it relates to their human identity? children feel many things. It is abusive for adults to steer a child into an understanding of gender and sexuality that is a mega minority amongst adults. As a community we will learn this lesson the hard way. Policies like this and the loud voices that support them should be held accountable for each LGBTQ suicide in the next two decades. which will, and already are, on the increase. Nobody desires anybody to be bullied. That is not the issue. Each child should receive an education. That is not the issue. No child should be used as a tool buy an adult to advance a novel social agenda. I’m grieved at the depth of pain and consequence that is on the horizon.
