Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Children need to be protected from the activism of the normalcyof the transgender phenomenon to the realities of how non transgendered children will compete with transgendered children regarding sports, bathrooms/locker rooms, and personal protection. How many people feel comfortable with people of the opposite biological sex sharing bathrooms, locker rooms, and hotel rooms. How many predators may use these new liberties to prey upon innocent children.  How many biological boys will switch to a female gender identity to compete in girls’ sports and eliminate traditional female competition? Before creating permanent regulations, which will impact non transgendered students as well, there should be greater public information and debate about what is being proposed.

Parents need to consider how their own children will be impacted in school and beyond with the bombardment of transgender indoctrination. I have worked with preteens and teens as a counselor for over 20 years and have seen a lightning rod rise in what appears to be gender confusion.  This was notmuch of an issue even 5-10 years ago. Why the rise?  Why are so many children unhappy with who they are?  I believe most of the students who want to transgender have had adverse childhood experiences that have negatively affected who they are, from divorce to rape. These are things that need to be looked at, not changing genders.  And this is not just male to female or female to male, there are a ridiculous number of 50 +, and growing, identities that sound like something from a science fiction novel.  I would suggest anyone who wants to understand what may be happening, from all perspectives, read Irreversible Damage.  One of the questions this book presents is: why are adolescent girls finding solace in the transgender movement when they identified with typical “girl” ways of being in their childhood years.  Why is this “fad” insidiously affecting our girls. What I have personally found from talking with students is their social status rises with new titles from bisexual to transgendered.  This feeling of importance increases endorphinsand produces a sense of well-being, but also forms a possible pathway to destruction.  Some people will say children have to transgender to keep them from suicidal ideation, but the reality is that they continue with depression and suicidal thoughts even through the process and beyond, because the core issue of their confusion is not being addressed.  And, why would any person be encouraged to take dangerous drugs and have surgeries on perfectly healthy body parts to try to find happiness. As a counselor and having the wisdom of life as a person in my 60’s, why aren’t we trying to help children find ways for their brains, feelings, and identities, to match their God given bodies, which are biologically either male or female – PERIOD!   The biological sex does not change over time, only strange distortions of themselves.

Get to the root of the Transgender phenomenon, don’t cover it with hormones, surgeries and self-destructiveness.  Save our children – both transgendered confused and intact identity children!!!
