This is a very heartening to read and I am proud to be a Virginia alumnus and to have my kids currently enrolled in Virginia schools. Education is about more than what textbooks say and its more than how to solve equations. Education is also about learning how to be a good citizen and I'm happy to see that this will now involve recognizing the gender identity of the students, not only so that they can feel accepted and supported, but also so that their cisgender classmates are exposed at an early age to classmates whose gender identity isn't the same as their own and that that's not weird or scary. It's just different.
I heartily support these guidelines.
