Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

This defies not only science but common sense. Has there been any attempt to contact pediatric psychiatrists, from BOTH sides of the argument, to have them debate back and forth in an open forum why this is or isn't appropriate for our children? Why this is potentially harmful NOT helpful? Im assuming there has not been because if you guys did your due diligence and were after what was actually best for our kids instead of what pushed the agenda you were after - then you'd know that any psychiatrist worth their salt can provide you with abundant scientific evidence and experience in the field, much more than the supporting side can, that states that the vast, vast majority of children who have decided to present as transgender have endured previous sexual trauma as a child. Meaning that these children are exhibiting not an unconsequential free choice but instead symptoms of unresolved child abuse that caused severe mental chaos and trauma. Supporting this measure inadvertantly forces you into the circle of those who not only perpetrated the abuse but those who refused to help stop it. That cannot be your intention here and if it is, then we have way bigger problems.

This is not a good thing to push on our babies, it IS harmful. I dont think I know anyone who believes we should be treating "transgender" children badly or harshly. I do not believe we should be humiliating them - I believe that the correct form of action is in line with a compassionate response that focuses on healing and treatment. Let's not forget that so called "transgenderism" is classified as a mental health disorder. It is not just a simple, non significant choice of one deciding what they want. Thats not even touching the fact that no child still under the authority of their parents, who cannot even be legally trusted to make a decision to vote, enter the military, or to be trusted to make good enough choices to be out past the state mandated 11 o'clock curfew - has the ability to make good choices for a decision that will have such a profound and permanent impact on their lives going forward. Would you trust your own children with such big decisions without your guidance? The guidance of those who love them more than anything in the world, who more than anyone else, want whats best for them? Come on! Give me a break. No good parent is comfortable with that, not even any of you, if your being honest with yourselves and yet this is what your considering? I cant understand it.

This is particularly concerning because you are attempting to HARM children by validating a MENTAL HEALTH DISORDER, without the parents consent or input, at that. I will also say that your agenda, if implemented, places ALL of the civil liability on each of you and on the teachers/school officials involved if that child is harmed in the long run by these half baked, political policies and ill tell you why.  The courts have long established that unless a parent/parental unit have been proven unfit by a court of law, that their decisions and will for a child, whether agreed with or not, cannot be usurped by the state simply because the state thinks it knows better. Because of this precedent, a parents choices for their children must be deemed as "in the child's best interest!" Which again, since it seems no one has thought of the consequences, opens the school systems up to liability if the parents can prove harm done and a deliberate choice by the school officials to unilaterally decide, contrary to the parents decisions, what was best for that child, which they will be able to easily do, considering, as I stated earlier, this is a mental health disorder and the long held court precedent.

For so many of you who scream at us that we MUST be guided by the science - you sure are going AGAINST the actual science. I believe that both sides of this argument must be weighed against each other equally and from an unbiased, unpolitical stand point before this is allowed to go forward. If it is weighed and argued fairly with both sides being able to present why this is or isn't appropriate - then i believe you all MUST come to the conclusion that all of us FULLY informed parents have already come to - that this is not okay to implement. It is NOT okay to usurp our authority as the rightful providers and decision makers for our children, which again were talking about rights that have been long established by the courts.

This should NOT be implemented. I believe given everything I've already stated, that this cannot be implemented in good conscience by any of you. Enough of this cowardly, self preservation bull crap. These are our babies who you are offering up to be potentially destroyed by your unproven theories. Beyond that, a child should not be put in the position to have to deal with these kinds of issues. Let our children be children for Gods sake. They have their whole lives to deal with such heavy issues. Why the rush to destroy them, especially so early?
