Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Schools Teach - Families Parent

I strongly believe the school systems sole responsibility is to teach fundamental concepts.  Religion, Politics, etc. should all be left OUT of the school system for parents to teach at home.

Specific Concerns:

Freedom of Speech - it is violating my child's freedom of speech to require them to use certain words & pronouns.  This is separate from "not" allowing my child to use certain language at school (foul language, etc)

Parental Knowledge - Parents of minors under 18 have a right to ANY and ALL information regarding their child AND the right to dictate what guidance their child receives.  Parents have the right to know how and by whom dressing rooms are being used.  If the schools can't adhere to this then create all single use locker rooms and single use bathrooms.

Sports - When a biological male out swims or out runs my biological daughter is it fair that she is now at a disadvantage for winning, rankings, scholarships, etc. It is SCIENCE that males are born and biologically stronger and faster.

Religious Exemption - Again, separation of church & state.  My family & child should be permitted to be religiously exempt from ANYTHING we or our religion chooses.
