Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Oppose these regulations. Parents have authority over their children, not schools

I am opposed to having schools decide for my children what is best, this is the first point. Parents should have ultimate authority over their children, knowledge of what happens in schools, knowledge of what their children 'declare' in school, knowledge about birth control and/or abortions and transgender medicines, surgeries , etc. that are sponsored, suggested or offered through schools.

If the Virginia Dept of Education really looks at the scientific (non-woke) literature, child suffer immense crisis of identity when they become 'transgender', suicide rates increase, life long damage is done in many many cases. These kinds of policies should NOT be pushed in our VA schools, nor shoved down their - or our- the parents- throats. Why is this being done? To protect the incredibly small number of students who declare themselves as transgender, some not even knowing what it means? In doing so, you, the school system is ignoring and NOT protecting the majority of students. Where are their rights? Trends across the country signal their voice is ignored, dismissed or worse criticized for not being 'in trend' (or woke- enough), in with the times, in step - with what- the minority? Individualism is lost. There will be no freedom to be individual, because these policies will translate into " you must agree with transgenderism, you must not make fun of, you must condone."

Religious freedom to speak out or even to voice one's opinion - I am a Christian or Jew or Muslim and I believe there are two genders -a man is man and woman a woman , will be persecuted. We are already seeing this in a number of places. Why would Virginia, my lovely Commonwealth choose such destructive paths?

Please listen to the people, the parents. Please do not enact these transgender policies. They are and will be extremely destructive for families and for our children and for the rights of parents to be the authority for their children.

Respectfully,

M Morris
