Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Joy not agenda

Joy not agenda!  Love of teaching & love of all children!  Where did we go so wrong? I remember the joy my awkward but joyful son showed the first time he entered Glebe School.  I remember Mrs. Mountain who loved all the students & showed her love every day by her joy!  She did not have an agenda!  Unless you regard the desire to want All of her children to thrive.  She was kind & showed her joy & expertise to all children & included All The parents in every phase of their child's life. She knew, as we all did at that time, adult issues should remain adult issues until a child is able to understand those complicated issues. Teachers protected their children from harm both physically & mentally.  Parents & teachers & the Arlington School Board, most of the time, wanted their children to grow up to be well educated & caring individuals. That is their jobs in their individual capacity.   When my son  transferred to Drew SchooI I was amazed.  Every week there was children's choice & parents actively taught on those days.  Teachers had personal conferences with parents keeping parents abreast of every aspect of their child's life.  Parents were not the enemy.  They were the intricate part of their, yes, their child's life!  Mrs. Hu was a big influence on my son's life & I think in all the children 's life.  She was wonderful. Later my son graduated from HB Woodlawn & I think Arlington County Schools, their teachers & their programs, at the time, were a good influence on almost all children.  I am so very proud of my son.  He is a caring, hard working, intelligent individual who with the help of those teachers, is a wonderful man.  Where did lose our way?  Arlington County Schools, behind the parent's back, brought in an individual who addressed Adult issues to a Kindergarten class!  Unbelievable!  Arlington County Schools, want to take away the rights of the parents who bore their children.  They are the ones who remain their children 's guides through life, not the schools. They feed, cloth, educate at home & are their for them in times of joy as well as trouble.  I suppose any law that usurps the parents rights.
