I do not feel that at this time our dental assistants should be scaling teeth. They are not trained for this and are we really going to let dentist be responsible for their training? Both, hygienst and dentist spend many years learning how to perform this treatment and Idon't think that a dentist, in practice, will spend the time to train his assistant. Its not like they can put some disclosing solution in the mouth and scale everything off. I, for one, am not in favor of assistants scaling teeth. Jack Allara II DDS
