I wholeheartedly vote No to DAs performing scaling on patients. It takes years of knowledge to become a dental hygientist. The safety of our patients and the quality of care and education a patient receives should be paramount in such a decision and not based on monetary and convenience decisions. If a dental assistant wants to be a dental hygienist then that DA should go to school to get a dental hygiene degree.
