What one family deems as sensitive and unacceptable, another finds informative and thought-provoking. Passing this amendment would expect teachers to determine what might possibly be sensitive to any student in his or her classes, and that's an impossibility. One need only review the long list of banned books in this country to see the wide range of titles that some find inappropriate but that others view as keystones of the curriculum.
I support parents in ther taking an active role in their children's education, and I support their contacting teachers when a topic, text, presentation, any material is problematic for them and their families. Passing this amendment, though, does not address the issue effectively.
