As a long-time Virginian and a resident of Fauquier County, I strongly oppose DEQ’s proposal to expand the allowable use of diesel backup generators at data centers.
This industry is already overwhelming our communities, our grid, and our quality of life. Allowing them broader use of massive, boxcar-sized Tier IV generators is nothing short of reckless. These machines emit heavy NOx, particulates, and other toxins — and many are placed alarmingly close to homes, schools, and neighborhoods that never agreed to shoulder this burden.
DEQ’s job is to protect public health, not bend to the wishes of the wealthiest industry in Virginia. Data centers have pushed the limits for years, and now they want even more freedom to pollute whenever they deem it “necessary.”
Enough.
Do not enable this. Do not reward their excesses. And do not make Virginians pay the price with their air and their health.
Reject this proposal.
