Mental Health Skill-Building Services is pertinent in the personal growth and stability of many individuals suffering from mental illness. The regulation changes requiring inpatient psychiatric treatment will hinder individuals and ultimately place them at risk of decompensation - warranting the costly treatment of inpatient hospitalization. As a QMHP-A, I promote Person-Centered Treatment and many of the individuals I support indicate a personal goal of 'staying out of the hospital.' It is difficult to explain to them that they are being penalized and no longer meet criteria for services because they have maintained their personal goal of 'staying out of the hospital.'
