I support limiting the menhaden reduction fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. I do not think a 1 mile buffer from the coast is enough, but we must start somewhere to protect our natural resources. As a resident of Virginia Beach, a boater, beach enthusiast, & part of a family who loves recreational fishing, this industry is ruining enjoyment of the bay. Boat captains and my family can all speak to the drop in Rockfish catches, & the decline in the osprey population, all which rely on menhaden to survive. Purse seining decimates the bay in short order. Not to mention bycatch. This industry needs to be contained and strictly managed and enforced. So much damage has already been done. Please support these restrictions.
