The funds should be used to increase the reimbursement rate for personal care providers to help with the statewide staffing crisis. Agencies are struggling to stay in business with the minimum wage increase and staggeringly low reimbursement rate. Without being able to pay caregivers a competitive wage, Medicaid members are going without care which leads to costly hospitalizations and significant burden on their families. A higher reimbursement rate would allow providers to properly compensate their caregivers who gave so much during the pandemic and ensure quality care to personal care recipients until the next reimbursement rate increase.
