Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Vehemently Oppose!

As someone who works with teens in our community, I have witnessed first hand how this idea of calling people what they want to be called using their "preferred pronouns" is causing SEVERE distress amongst the majority of their peers. It is confusing them and causing more and more isolation amongst our youth as they do not even want to interact with these kids now because they fear getting in trouble. Isolation leads to depression. Not knowing what to do when their conscious rightfully tells them that a girl is a girl and a boy is a boy. That we cannot change someone's name or pronoun just because they no longer identify as their given name/pronoun. This is ABSURD! Our youth are confused enough as it is. They need adults who are willing to mentor them and lead them as adults who know simple biology, who can help them to recognize their inherent dignity as male or female, whatever their biological sex is. To say we can  choose our gender is an absolute disgrace and distrust in science and all that is true.

What is the deal with all of the language specific to EXCLUDING PARENTAL KNOWLEDGE?! Are the parents the parents, or is the school/government trying to take away that right?! Give me a break!!!! Let the parents be the parents and get the dirty hands of the government off our children! They clearly have NO interest in protecting our youth, and absolutely not moreso than the child's parents!

I could go on and on...this whole thing is absolutely nuts!! Parents who clearly know if they had a boy or a girl when they gave birth to their child should be able to raise them as such and not have to give in to their confusion as they grow up. Let them teach them how to be the man or woman that they are and if they need help, let them get professional counseling (that's another whole issue to deal with now that even our therapists are not allowed to do the right thing!). But to think that parents could be reported for neglect or child abuse for raising their child as the gender that they are and refusing to give in to their confusion is WRONG!!!!!

This is a matter of FACT not opinion, not feeling, not anything else. Boys are boys. Girls are girls. If we can't agree on this and help our youth to accept their own biology, then how can we expect America to prosper as a nation!? Lord, have mercy!!!
