Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

STRONGLY OPPOSE

All the proposals in this draft are extremely dangerous, ridiculous and unnecessary.

Every student has basic human rights and you can't micromanage a certain special interest group's treatment to the detriment of all the other children.

These are CHILDREN - still growing and developing and learning who they are.  DO NOT push them and put them into defined identities - DO YOUR JOB and teach them reading, writing, arithmetic!  There are too many under-educated young people in the work world today because schools have gotten away from their basic mission.

Another point to be considered is, would you like some of these gender-confused students or their families to sue the schools, teachers, counselors, etc. that pushed them into a gender identity that they later rescind?  Suppose they mutilate their bodies, or worse yet, are driven to suicide?  Have you read about the lawsuit in Great Britain?

This is an ugly can of worms that needs to be discarded.  Like I said before, schools need to return to their core mission.
