Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

I strongly oppose these guidelines

I do not, and you should not approve of these guidelines based on radical theories that eradicate all distinctions between male and female and indoctrinate our school children.

These guidelines leave the parents out of the mix - a very bad and dangerous policy - both for the family and society as a whole.  It has been shown that gender dysphoria can be treated and, with help, a teen can realize and embrace their biological sex. Under these Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) guidelines, parents who encourage their children to embrace their God-given sex would be at risk of being reported for child abuse or neglect by the school.

These guidelines also prohibit schools from notifying parents if a biological male is using the changing facility as their daughter - a facility that was designated for girls.  There is no consideration about how this will affect the girls. Additionally, parents will not be notified that their child is being interrogated by school officials for allegedly violating these policies, or have the opportunity to intervene on their child's behalf, UNLESS the complaints are not resolved "at the school level." Again a bad move to keep the parents out of touch.

The policies provide absolutely no exceptions or accommodations for a student or teacher whose religious faith, conscience, or understanding of biology and sociology prevents them from being able to go along with the “transgender” ideology and policies.

These troubling policies proposed by the VDOE are totally unworkable and will force all students, faculty and administrators to comply with an empirically false view of sex and gender.  The guidelines need to be totally reworked in the light of helping teens to understand and embrace their biological sex.
