Accountability for ourselves and our leaders.

Couldn't we just hold everyone accountable to getting their vote, no matter the casting method, into the right place by 7pm on Election Day?

I personally don't believe there's voter fraud or some political conspiracy to steal an election, but I do believe that loosening various laws surrounding an institution of this importance will only lead to further divides in our nation.

I remember the days of rolling my eyes at my dad as we talked about politics and he'd share his viewpoints that were often in contrast to my own and we'd at least try to understand one another.

He's been gone a while now but I can't help but think that these days wouldn't lend themselves to such healthy discussions.

There's too much anger, too much distrust and too many assumptions by both sides that the other side is blatantly and unapologetically maniacal.

It's not the America I want and it's not as simple as it being one side's fault... we're all this way now and we got here gradually with dramatic, fear-based responses to policy change like what is being proposed by this action.

Let's not prepare ourselves, no matter which side we fall on, for a fraudulent election by assuming the other side is actively trying to cheat.  But let's also maintain a system that allows both sides to trust that their voices will be heard equally.

I'd much rather be preparing to hold a conversation about where we're going when whoever is elected, then preparing to hold a conversation about how fair it was or wasn't that that person was elected.

America can't take much more of this constant fear and rage towards "the other side."  Half of us aren't right and half of us aren't wrong.

All of us are Americans.  Let's start acting like it.
