Protect workers and the medically vulnerable

Masks should be mandated in all public indoor spaces until there is statistically significant evidence that the threat of COVID-19 has passed Virginia. All evidence as of right now demonstrates that consistency in mask wearing by the general population greatly reduces the spread of disease. I urge Virginians put aside their potential discomfort with wearing a mask and consider it an act of courtesy for those who cannot work at home and for those who are most susceptible to complications from COVID-19. COVID-19 is ten times more deadly than the flu and can lead to other long term complications, such as inflammation and decreased lung capacity, that clinicians are only beginning to understand. It is critical to continue these measures to reduce the transmission of the coronavirus, particularly when they are minimally invasive for the average person.
