After almost five months of the government and health agencies in country and around the world telling us they are the know all authorities on how to manage the Covid 19 virus, we are left with the following thoughts about only one small part of their dictatorial edits, to wear a mask or not to wear a mask.  These officials first told us that the disease was NO THREAT to Americans and for us to just go about our daily lives.  The experts went on to say that the wearing of masks was unnecessary for health reasons and selfish as the medical personnel on the front lines treating ill patients needed them immediately as there was a world wide shortage of masks.  We were also told that no mask other than a N-95 surgical mask would deter the virus and all others would be futile against the disease.  Within a few weeks, after we were all forced by government mandate to retreat into our homes, close our businesses and basically ruin the best economy in the world, the narrative changed!  We should do all we could to wear a surgical mask if they could be found when leaving our homes to perform essential tasks.  Three months into the shutdown, governments decided that all should wear masks all of the time except for those that might have a medical reason not to do so.  About that same time, the World Health Organization changed direction on their advice to tell all that HEALTHY PEOPLE SHOULD NOT WEAR A MASK, only those that were immune system compromised should do so., or those caring for COVID patients.   Like so many other medical experts, they noted that the wearing of masks by healthy people can bring on new health problems that a healthy person should avoid like breathing difficulty, oxygen deficiencies, skin problems, eye infections, cold sores, and most importantly, BACTERIA LUNG INFECTIONS. So, we are now surrounded by about 50% of the healthy population walking around or in some case riding around in their own cars, wearing facial coverings that range from nasty rags made on the filthy floors of some far away third world country without any sort of oversight about their effectiveness or safe for use practices.  Some wear decorative scarfs, some wear perforated coverings that are giving them absolutely no protection for themselves, much less others.  Many just callously discard their nasty rags onto the public streets without regard for the safety or visual attack they impose on others.  In the final analysis, we are all going to have to experience being infected with the virus before it runs it course unless there is a vaccine made that can be guaranteed to be safe to use on the world population going forward.  Let me repeat that one more time.  WE ARE ALL GOING TO HAVE TO GET THE VIRUS!  The good news in all of this is that 98.5% of us will contract it, and get over it as we would a cold or flu.  The other 1.5% will find the disease to much more serious for them.  Many of them will die from it.  If one thinks they are immune compromised, they should remain away from others until this disease is gone.  The elderly should especially avoid others persons who are in the general population, masks or no masks. On a last point, the wearing of a mask or not has become a political symbol for many.  Politically left leaning personalities who love the idea of government telling them what to do with their own lives tend to follow like sheep and do as they are told to do.  Our more conservative population believes in self managing our lives and not as apt to follow government mandates that are constantly in conflict with their own instructions and often fall into the pattern of "do what I tell you to do, not as I do".  I am a healthy individual that will not be wearing a mask that may render me unhealthy.  That just defies common sense and logic.  The exception to that rule will be when I am in the presence of someone who is compromised and announces the same to me.  As a courtesy to them, I will carry a mask that I can then wear for their sense of well being.
