A few months ago I wrote a post concerning the upcoming Caregiver Crisis. I pointed out that more than two- thirds (68 percent) of Americans believe that they will be able to rely on their loved ones to meet their long term care needs when they require help. Unfortunately, this belief may collide with the reality of dramatically shrinking availability of family caregivers.
According to an AARP study, in 2010 there were 7 potential caregivers for every person over 80. The study reveals that by 2030 the ratio will decline sharply to 4 to 1 and by 2050, 3 to 1.
Those who qualify for the state’s Medicaid program for in-home care are already having a very difficult time finding workers to meet the demand. EVV makes it impossible both for consumer directed and agency directed services.
