Virginia Energy Plan

As an education professional who sees students studying and engaged in various fields, I feel it is important that they emerge in the workforce in a prosperous and secure environment.  The US should drill offshore to become more independent and to ultimately become a major exporter of oil and gas.  This should not only reduce our reliance on foreign suppliers but also lower the energy prices I pay.

Not long ago, I worked in the financial services industry and for 10 years as a bank president.  Over the last decade, I have been a college professor.  My daily commute to work is a 40-mile round trip, so I normally fill up at least once a week.  For my other car, I refuel every two weeks.  Therefore, affordable gasoline is important to me.

Even though the coast is 100 miles from me, I believe that some in my community may be able to benefit from the ancillary positions that may come from offshore drilling.  The economy here is good but could be even better.  It is possible that some of my students may be able to benefit from the steady jobs associated with offshore exploration and development.  Both natural gas and electricity power my home, and any reduction in my bills would be appreciated.  It is my concern that energy exploration, development, sustainability and affordability be looked at from a national security perspective.  This is why it is my hope that you support offshore drilling initiatives in the state of Virginia.
