We need 100% renewables ASAP for current electricity + heating + transportation.  For details, see work by Stanford Professor Mark Jacobson.  Stop all new fossil infrastructure.  Build only solar, wind, and storage from now on.  Variability of solar and wind generation can be accomodated with existing fossil generation units, plus variable pricing, plus storage.
