I strongly oppose. I could not imagine letting someone place an IVC on any of my pets, especially in an emergency situation, without having any education other than from on the job. Even before I decided I wanted to be a technician. I had confidence to place an IVC the first time on a live patient because we had models we practiced on for an entire semester before we attempted a live patient. Not to mention we had all of the vets and LVTs at BRCC standing by watching us and guiding us through the entire process. They broke it into a science, emphasizing sterile procedure, when it is appropriate to place one in an emergency situation, and most importantly, how to ensure it is placed correctly.
