I support a ban on firearms in state offices.

Dear Ms. Bishton:

I support the Department of General Services' proposed ban on the carrying of firearms in state offices and property leased by state agencies with the exceptions noted in the proposed regulations.  In my 36 years experience serving the Commonwealth and her citizens, there has never been any occasion when a firearm was required or would have been appropriate.

I personally believe that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Consitution has outlived its usefulness.  It was created by our Founding Fathers when this brand new country quartered an invading enemy--Great Britain-- and was intended, I believe, for citizen militias to provide defense in the absence of a small established formal mititary.  That political situation has not existed since I believe at least 1812.  But this is a debate for another day and another venue as it is not relevant to the DGS' proposed regulations.

You may want to consider removing duplicative text from the final stage regulations:  section 10 C and D are seem to be repeated in the last two sentences of section 40.  Thank you for proceeding with this regulatory action.

Sincerely,

Vicki Simmons
