I OPPOSE the Governor's ban on guns in executive branch buildings.

1) Any time I walk into a gun free zone, I feel less safe. The Governor's "emergency" ban on guns in executive buildings turns government buildings into gun free zones, thus I feel less safe in government buildings and am less likely to seek out government services no matter how much I need them. Every mass shooting in Virginia, and almost every mass shooting elsewhere in the country, have occurred in "gun free" zones.

2) There was no emergency need for this gun ban. There has never been a shooting in an executive branch building in Virginia. Someone once used fertilizer to blow up a federal building in my home town of Oklahoma City, so why didn't the governor ban fertilizer? [Perhaps he knew that a number of politicians would not then be able to speak in government buildings.] The Governor's "emergency" ban was purely a political stunt intended for his political supporters and not for the good of the citizens of the Commonwealth.

3) The General Assembly passed a law that would not allow the Governor to continue this stupidity, but the Governor, of course, continued the stupidity by vetoing the law. This shows that the legislative branch opposes the gun ban as well.

4) As ludicrous as the Governor's "emergency" gun ban has been, making this travesty of common sense into a permanent ban would be beyond unbelievable.

I STRONGLY OPPOSE this ridiculous and unjustifiable gun ban, and I sincerely urge you to oppose it as well.

Thank you for your attention.
