The idea that this rule does anything at all positive for the Commonwealth, is laughable, and now, it is suggested to become permanent? I'm not sure which part disappoints me more, the fact that the governor suggests to make it permanent, or that he proposed it in the first place. All party politics aside, I do not understand what exactly we are going to get out of this? Somebody who wishes to do others harm will not be dissuaded by a rule, a policy or a law. We as a people have seen what happens when an average, law abiding, person is forbidden to protect him or herself and totally unlike our governor, none of us has a security detail from our State Police to protect us. (In the interested of full disclosure, the folks who form them protection detail, are, of course, armed with firearms.)

If Mr. McAuliffe indeed believes that this rule makes the executive branch safer, this rule should apply to all in the branch, including himself, and his security detail, as it not only would be fair to all (as we are all equal in the eyes of the law, no?) but would provide him a chance to lead the way and show a great example to all the executive branch employees, visitors, business associates and anyone else who would be in these places that they are very safe and have nothing at all to worry about as no one would ever break the rule.
