This proposed regulation will have the opposite of the intended affect by playing into the hands of terrorists, violent criminals, and the criminally insane.  We have had no shootings in state agencies and this prohibition on those with a concealed handgun permit, some of whom have active and ongoing threats to their lives, is entirely without any justification and needlessly and recklessly endangers innocent lives.

Disarming good citizens (who are the only ones likely to obey the prohibition) does not make them safer.  Simply put, the bad guys you are trying to prevent from acting will simply ignore this regulation.  If they are going to commit murder and mayhem, it is completely nonsensical to think that they will obey a prohibition against carrying guns into state agencies!

Most importantly the Governor has no authority for this regulation.  If the General Assembly wanted the Governor to have such power, they would have granted it to him explicitly, as is required constitutionally.  No executive should ever have the power to unilaterally change the law of the land.  There is a reason for the separation of powers.  The power to create law is specifically reserved to the General Assembly.

This proposed regulation is a solution for which there is no problem.  It endangers state employees, law abiding citizens, and the innocent by making state buildings a safe zone for terrorists, criminals, and the criminally insane to conduct their evil and savage actions.

This regulations should not be approved and the emergency regulation should be immediately withdrawn.

It is my understanding that this ban will affect state rest stops – meaning people who can legally carry everywhere else in the state cannot even stop for needed rest while traveling long distances to visit friends and family.  This needless puts others at risk by forcing tired drivers to continue driving when they would otherwise need to stop and rest.

Including state “agencies” such as DMV and ABC stores is simply spiteful on the part of the Governor.  He is inviting trouble by requiring people to disarm themselves merely to conduct routine business and/or to go shopping.  This will potentially cause firearm mishaps merely because people will have to handle and manipulate firearms they would not ordinarily need to handle.  Virtually everyone that carries concealed puts their firearm on in the morning and, hopefully, never has to take it off again until the end of the day.  The Governor is now going to force these same people to needlessly handle a firearm - or be called a criminal for something that was perfectly legal up until the Governor’s politically motivated decision.
