New "GUN-FREE ZONES" Order By Governor McAuliffe

I heard about this new effort to make more "gun-free zones" all across the state - including all state buildings, ABC stores, etc., etc., via a message from the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL).  We all know this is a 'feel good' measure by Gov. McAuliffe and is a huge move against our Second Amendment rights and an affront to our ability to defend ourselves from violent attack.  Furthermore, it is not likely to do anything at all to enhance the safety of ordinary, law-abiding Virginians and may even have the OPPOSITE effect because it will embolden would-be criminals.  They will now all but be assured that their victims are rendered defenseless.

I am no legal scholar by any stretch, but does the governor even have the power to enact such a 'ban' without action by the General Assembly?  His actions reek of the impatient authoritarianism exhibited by President Obama, who seeks to act by executive order when he doesn't "get his way" with Congress or when he feels as though they are not acting the way he wants.

There needs to be A LOT MORE discussion about this action - and people "in the know" should have to argue their positions pro or con in a serious exhange of ideas.  Please extend the "comment" time for at least thirty more days.

Yours in liberty,
