Uphold abortion clinic regulations to protect women

Women deserve the same standard of medical care in abortion centers that they can expect in any surgical center.  The only way the Commonwealth can ensure standards of care are being met is to regulate all surgical centers, including those that provide abortions.  This is deeply personal to me because my own abortion experience (after being raped), occurred in what I call a "legalized back-alley abortion clinic."  The conditions were deplorable.  My initial exam occurred in a closet barely wide enough to accommodate the exam table.  There were cleaning supplies on a metal bookcase on the other wall and a broken suction machine at the foot of the table.  We were filed through the surgical room assembly line fashion.  Afterwards, we "recovered" in sardine like cramped quarters in the clinic hallway...in basically reclining lawn chairs pushed together, side-by-side.  Our discharge instructions were give en masse...a "nurse" told us what to do for home care as a group and then asked if anyone wanted a birth control prescription.  She then ripped off pre-signed prescriptions from a pad.  The doctor never said a single word to me.  The only way to protect other women from such experiences is to mandate it.  This isn't a pro-life/pro-choice issue; it's a standard of care issue.  Both sides should agree on this.
