I urge the Board of Health to support and even strengthen the recently enacted regulations aimed at bringing Virginias abortion centers into compliance with basic statewide safety and health standards. Given the numerous violations uncovered in recent inspections and the risks these conditions pose to vulnerable women, it should be patently obvious that enacting and enforcing such regulations is in clearly warranted and in the best interests of women and the Commonwealth as a whole. That such an invasive surgical procedure can be routinely conducted without abiding by the same standards of other surgical centers must comply with is a travesty that these regulations rectify; hence, they need to be upheld.
