Uphold Standards, Protect Women

Board of Health,

Several years ago, I met a woman at a conference in Covington, VA who was caring for her adult daughter due to her daughters medical condition. Nothing unusual, except the daughter had been perfectly healthy as a child and teenager. The girl became pregnant and went to a clinic for an abortion. Something went wrong and she almost died. The medical bills from the mistake were astounding and the girls parents had to pay, even though they had not even been aware of the pregnancy, which left them financially struggling years later. The problem" The "clinic" was not required to have the same standards of personnel, equipment, and supplies that a doctors office or surgical clinic is required to have. If the state of Virginia through your department had required them, perhaps she would not have suffered the damage from blood loss. The responsibility falls on your choices. The consequences should as well. Those who make their money from abortions will not cut their profits voluntarily. In fact, they hide behind you and Planned Parenthood types, claiming they are meeting the laws standards. RAISE THE BAR! Why should they be exempt from the same standards of the rest of the medical field""" Ri Painter
