Uphold Standards, Protect Women

Board of Health,

Groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and our state representatives are trying to overwhelm the public comment section with downright false claims: they say this is about protecting a "right to choose" while ignoring the gruesome results of Board of Health inspections of the centers.

It is NOT about womens "right to choose" but about substandard facilities, equipment and staff. Is this "right to choose" more important than the safety of women" NO!

Those who make the decision to have an abortion should be able to have it done in an environment that meets basic health and safety standards, is clean, and where the staff is trained. These health and safety standards simply ensure that abortion centers meet common sense standards of care to ensure womens health is paramount.

In just two years, inspections have exposed widespread health and safety violations including blood splattered exam tables and equipment, unsterilized needles, incomplete lifesaving equipment, violations of Virginia parental consent laws, an absence of reporting of possible cases of child abuse, and many more deficiencies.

I support these basic health and safety standards and urge you to also.

In your response to me I insist you do not attempt to placate me as in your past replys to my comments by simply restating the false claims that this is about a womens "right to choose".

I demand action. It is broken and it needs fixing.

Thank you, Cindi Fortin
