Opposed to Ammendment

As a parent, I am terrified that curriculum decisions continue to drift out of the hands of those most qualified to make calls regarding content.  When children are only exposed to ideas and expressions that align with the judgements and beliefs of a limited faction, education ceases.  It becomes instead, a regurgitation of learned opinions and reactions.  I trust the minds and moral conscience of my children enough to have them pushed and challenged, because it is only then that they grow and mature.

As an educator, quite frankly, I am insulted.  In closing, I offer the following quote from Lois Lowry:

"Submitting to censorship is to enter the seductive world of 'The Giver': the world where there are no bad words and no bad deeds. But it is also the world where choice has been taken away and reality distorted. And that is the most dangerous world of all."
