TRAP is nothing more than a thinly veiled trap.

Many Virginians and Medical practitioners have spoken out against the so-called proposals of Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers. There are no legitimate medical purposes for singling out abortion providers. Extensive construction requirements have no relation to the safety of the services that women’s health centers provide. Regulating abortion differently than other outpatient procedures that are safely provided in non-hospital medical facilities is playing politics with women’s health.

Women’s health centers in Virginia have been providing safe, accessible, comprehensive reproductive health care for almost forty years. Abortion care is one of the safest surgical procedures available in the United States today. But Virginia’s TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) law threatens access to this important medical care by subjecting women's health centers to new, onerous, and unnecessary regulations.

These regulations have nothing to do with protecting women but everything to do with playing ideological politics. TRAP singles out health care professionals who provide abortion care, and the patients who seek it, for arbitrary and burdensome restrictions that have nothing to do with the safe delivery of services for women and everything to do with legislators’ efforts to deny women access to reproductive health care.
