TRAP regulations are onerous and place a burden on abortion providers that existing hospitals do not have to meet. It is unethical to call these regulations necessary for patient safety, because if they were necessary, all hospitals (new and existing) would be forced to meet the same standards. I hear the complaints about violations in abortion clinics, but hospitals are even more guilty. In fact, on January 5, I went to the emergency room of a hospital that does not have to meet new construction standards (built in 1980) and the room I was placed in had a significant amount of blood on the wall and bed and counter near the sink. Nurses came in and scrubbed the blood, but who is to say that room was safe after seeing that? What's next? Will colonoscopy providers be forced to meet these regulations as well? These are burdensome regulations that are unneccesary for safety. Why not have regulations that are reasonable, allow clinics to stay open, and are enforceable to all providers instead of just targeted to abortion providers with no grandfather clause for existing clinics?
