Ophthalmologists go to medical school followed by residency in order to safely perform surgeries like discussed in this legislation. Allowing optometrists to perform these surgeries without the training of ophthalmologists and without needing even one proctored procedure on a live person is putting a persons vision and livelihood at risk. They do not have the training to safely do this, especially with no oversight. Passing this is doing a disservice to all persons in the Commonwealth.
